San Juan Capistrano enjoys the unique distinction of being founded not once but twice. First founded in 1775, the Mission San Juan Capistrano had to be abandoned shortly after it was established. 

Approximately one year later, the Mission San Juan Capistrano was again established, and this mission still stands today.
